Overview

We were thrilled to supply the plants for the soft landscaping of Greenlands, a new 147 home development by United Living, built for the NHS workers of St Peter’s Hospital, in the historic market town of Chertsey. 

Greenlands’ high quality, modern apartments are based near Chertsey town centre, with access to plenty of local amenities and excellent transport links.

Our Approach

Being experts in growing plants for commercial landscapers, we worked with Archway Green from start to finish, to ensure the brief was fulfilled. We supplied over 11,000 plants for the project, made up of a range of perennials, grasses, shrubs and trees. 

Amongst the flower beds we supplied stunning perennials, including Geranium ‘Rozanne’, Geranium ‘Terre Franche’ and Allium sphaerocephalon, to provide a pop of violet to the development in the summer months. Tulip ‘Negrita’ was also planted amongst the perennials to offer early spring blooms. Allium sphaerocephalon in particular is a lovely addition to the flower beds as it blooms slightly later in summer and adds height with its tall, slender stems. In addition, Bergenia cordifolia was also supplied for the project. This evergreen perennial provides good ground cover with its wavy foliage, which can have a purple tinge during the winter months. In early spring, Bergenia cordifolia blooms lovely, deep pink flowers on thick, red stems. 

A range of shrubs were also planted within the flower beds to provide year-round interest throughout Greenlands. Pittosporum tobira ‘Nanum’ is a compact, rounded shrub with glossy, deep-green foliage. In late spring or early summer sweet scented white flowers bloom, which later change to pale yellow. Hebe ‘Red Edge’ was also included within the plan to add structure. An evergreen shrub with blue-grey foliage with red margins, Hebe ‘Red Edge’ has pale mauve flowers which fade to white and fit harmoniously with the violet blooms of the perennials.  

Ornamental grasses, such as Seslaria autumnalis and Miscanthus sinensis ‘Morning Light’, were used within the planting plan to add texture and movement to the development. Seslaria autumnalis is an evergreen, cool-season grass that forms a neat clump of grey-green foliage, with silvery-white panicles in late summer. Miscanthus sinensis ‘Morning Light’ is tall and graceful, deciduous grass with narrow, green and cream foliage and pink flowers in late summer, which transform to silvery-white over time. 

Trees were included within the planting plan to add structure to the development, such as Sorbus aria ‘Magnifica’ and Amelanchier arborea ‘Robin Hill’. Sorbus aria ‘Magnifica’ is a striking, deciduous tree, with large, unique foliage that is dark green on top with a white, felt texture on the underside.  Sorbus aria ‘Magnifica’ blooms clusters of small, white flowers in spring, followed by brown-red berries in autumn. Amelanchier arborea ‘Robin Hill’ boasts stunning spring blooms and vibrant, autumn colour. Its striking, finely branched architecture also provides interest during winter.
