Greenwood Community Update: June 2025

by | Jun 25, 2025

As we approach the halfway point of the year, our Greenwood Community initiative is already over two thirds of the way to its goal of 30 individual plant donations to schools, hospices, and non-profit organisations in 2025. With 23 donations made already, and many more planned in the coming months, Greenwood Community looks set to beat its target with plenty of time to spare. Below is a roundup of our most recent donations:

Sussex Green Living

2025 has already been an extremely busy year for our ongoing partnership with eco-charity Sussex Green Living, and the spring period was no different. Greenwood has donated pollinator-friendly plants and bulbs to a number of different community projects, all led by the non-profit organisation. In April, we provided plants for a Pollinator Education Station (PES) which was installed at St Peter’s C of E Primary school in Cowfold, enabling the children to learn more about the importance of pollinators.

Towards the end of April, we donated more pollinator-friendly plants for another Pollinator station, this time for their inaugural ‘Plant to Plate’ festival, held in Horsham Town Centre on 26th April. The PES was installed at the local Methodist church, with volunteer children at the event helping with the planting and the creation of bug hotels. The event featured talks from Horsham MP John Milne, as well as TV Presenter and Climate Activist Nick Nuttall.

In May, Greenwood made a further four donations of plants to pollinator station projects, all backed by major developers such as Barretts, David Wilson Homes, and Morgan Sindall. The stations will all be installed onto new-build developments, helping to boost biodiversity and educate local residents on biodiversity and pollinating insects.

With over ten projects already completed, and many more planned for the future, our partnership with Sussex Green Living is thriving!

Steyning for Trees

Towards the end of the bare root planting season, we donated 600 native bare root whips to our longstanding Greenwood Collaborators, Steyning for Trees. The organisation works to fight climate change, increase biodiversity, and support the well-being and beauty of Steyning and Bramber. In their newsletter, the charity said “Many thanks to Greenwood Plants for the trees. These have been planted in Wyckham Lane. Steve Palmier already has a well-wilded area which is host to Barn Owls; the hedge will help to provide food for these lovely birds. Greenwood Plants are great supporters of our community Projects”

We look forward to working more with Steyning For Trees in the future.

The Aldingbourne Trust

In May, we made two donations to a brand new Greenwood Community collaborator, The Aldingbourne Trust. They provide opportunities for adults with learning disabilities to live meaningful and fulfilled lives and to positively contribute to their communities. The charity runs a facility near to Greenwood’s Fresh Acres HQ, Aldingbourne Country Centre, which features a nursery, farm, café, event space, and much more. Greenwood donated a number of primrose plants, which were sold in their shop to raise funds for the trust, as well as a further donation of mixed plants later in the month. We are looking forward to working more closely with the trust on future projects.

Dakic Garden Design – Snowdrop Trust

We were delighted to supply plants to Dakic Garden design, which were used in their award-winning Alice in Wonderland themed garden at BBC Gardener’s World Spring Fair last month. The garden was designed to commemorate the 160th anniversary of the Alice in Wonderland book, and won three awards at the event, including the platinum BBC award, Best in Category, and Public Choice. Following the show, the plants were all sold, with the proceeds being donated to Snowdrop Trust, a local charity which works with terminally ill children, providing support to them and their families. Jonathan Dakic, one of the designers of the garden, said “Thank you to Greenwood for all the help that you’ve provided with the plants, sourcing and providing for the show.”

Fletchers Trees

We were delighted to donate a number of mixed plants to our client Fletchers Trees, which were sold as part of a charity plant sale, with the proceeds going towards ‘CoppaTrek!’, a 5 day trek on the isle of Skye, raising money for the breast cancer awareness charity, ‘CoppaFeel!’. The charity helps women identify the early signs of breast cancer through self-assessment techniques, enabling them to seek early treatment, and massively increase their survival rate. We are always delighted to support our clients in their charitable initiatives, and would like to congratulate all those involved for raising over £2,500 in total for the charity.

St Philip Howard’s Catholic School

In late May, we donated another group of mixed plants to frequent Greenwood collaborators St Philip Howard’s Catholic School. This is their second donation of plants so far this year, which are planted across various areas of the school’s ground by the children’s gardening club. The green-fingered volunteers are responsible for installing and maintaining the plants across the site, learning valuable horticultural skills along the way. Greenwood recently welcomed some of the students for a visit, and look forward to welcoming more in the future. We are grateful for our ongoing partnership with the school, and look forward to further donations.
