Greenwood sponsors client relay marathon in aid of Alfie’s Wish.

On Sunday 19^th May, DesignScapes Southwest took part in a charity relay marathon to raise money for a local charity known as Alfie’s Wish.

The Landscaping contractor, who has been a member of our G Club client loyalty program since its inception in 2022, entered into the Romsey Relay Marathon, where 10 of their employees each ran a portion of a 26 mile race. It’s an event in which they have participated previously, and this year, they’ve opted to raise money for a local charity called ‘Alfie’s Wish’.

Alfie’s Wish focusses on providing memorable experiences for families who have children fighting cancer. Alfie Butler was born on 10^th May 2014, but months later he returned to hospital and was subsequently diagnosed with a brain tumour. The next few years of his life would end up being a battle against his disease and his family weren’t sure what the future would hold for them. They made the most of the time they had with Alfie, and created memories on which they could look back in future and smile. Sadly, despite fighting bravely for five years, Alfie passed away on 2^nd January 2020. Recognising the importance of creating lasting memories for similar families who face an uncertain future such as Alfie’s, his parents decided to set up Alfie’s Wish, in the hopes that they could raise money and provide the families of children like Alfie the opportunity to enjoy days out, whether it be to the Zoo, theme park, or an event. The charity is close to the hearts of the DesignScapes team, many of whom know Alfie’s parents personally.

The team successfully completed the marathon in 3 hours and 51 minutes, with their fastest split being an incredible 19 minutes and 30 seconds to run a tenth of the marathon! In addition, DesignScapes managed to raise over £1000 for the charity through sponsorship for the event. Greenwood values its clients, and are eager to support their charitable endeavours wherever possible. We were delighted to contribute £500 towards the relay marathon, in aid of a charity which is certainly deserving of our support. We’d like to congratulate the participants from DesignScapes Southwest for completing their marathon and raising so much money for a worthy cause.
