Climate resilient nature-based solutions for the urban landscape
A 45-minute session for your team on choosing planting that survives the conditions our towns and cities now face, and on specifying it so it makes it to site.
The conditions have already changed
Urban planting now has to cope with drought and waterlogging on the same site in the same year, with heat that builds up between buildings, and with hardiness ratings that no longer describe what a plant will meet. Choosing plants for the climate that is coming, rather than the one we used to plan for, is now part of the brief.
The session looks at where native, near-native and non-native planting each belong on the gradient from countryside to city centre, and at how to protect a specification so the plant you chose is the plant that goes in.

What your team will take away
- How the conditions urban planting has to survive have already changed
- Where native, near-native and non-native planting each belong, from countryside to city centre
- The nine plants in the Climadapt range, their tolerances and the ecosystem services each one delivers
- How to specify the range with confidence, including spacing, establishment and maintenance
- Who bred and selected these plants, and on what evidence
